Theater Aan Zee

Coastal theater festival

One foot on the stage…

… one in the North Sea!

Project Summary

Last summer, we brought our AI photobooth to Theater Aan Zee, the ten-day multidisciplinary arts festival held in the Belgian coastal city of Ostend and the result was pure magic.

Nestled in the heart of one of Belgium’s most beloved cultural gatherings, our photobooth invited people to step into a world where the dramatic flair of the stage collides with the wild spirit of the sea. Using generative AI, visitors were transformed into vivid, larger-than-life portraits: swashbuckling pirates, weathered sea captains, and shimmering mermaids, all rendered with a theatrical twist that felt right at home among the performances surrounding them.

Theater Aan Zee draws over 100.000 of visitors each year with its unique mix of performing arts, music, literature, and visual arts, presented across atmospheric locations throughout Ostend. These portraits captured the festival’s unique DNA: one foot on the stage, one in the North Sea.

The results were funny, surprising, and deeply shareable. These printed mementos honor a festival that celebrates creativity in all its forms.

AI Visions

Project Features

By treating practical lights, torches, bulbs, lanterns, as active narrative elements, our AI model grounds fantasy in something tactile and real. Light sources reflected on faces make for a lived-in world rather than a composited one.

Our updated engine goes deeper into facial structure, skin tone, and expression to produce results that are genuinely recognisable, not just plausible. When you see it, there’s no question who it is.

We love it when you challenge us to be as creative as possible. We’ll definitely show you something you haven’t seen before. The larger the concept, the greater the response!

The pictures speak for themselves.
Love it!
